Oil Springs, ON – Fire Chief

The Village of Oil Springs, ON has appointed Mike Cumming as its new Fire Chief.

According to The Independent, Chief Cumming was appointed on May 6, 2025 and has served with the department for 35 years. He is replacing retiring Fire Chief Al Charlton, who served with the department for about 34 years, and will join Deputy Fire Chief Al Byers. The appointment is only until December 31, 2025, however, Oil Springs Mayor Ian Veen is hoping that Chief Cumming will agree to stay longer.

According to its website, “The Village of Oil Springs shares services pertaining to the Enniskillen/Oil Springs Fire Department with the Township of Enniskillen.”

Oil Springs is in Enniskillen Township in Lambton County, ON. According to its Wikipedia page, Oil Springs is the site of North America’s first Commercial oil well, and home to the Oil Museum of Canada.
